Tom Walker

Raised in Manchester on his father's extensive record collection, multi-instrumentalist Tom Walker has developed a unique style that blends J Dilla inspired hip-hop beats with electronic sounds, layered on top of his soulful and gritty vocal.

His debut track ’Sun Goes Down’ incorporates a sample from a 1930's rendition of the work song ‘I’ll Be So Glad When The Sun Goes Down’, as he explores the idea of the oppression that still remains in the modern world, an issue Tom feels strongly about. "Despite certain aspects changing for the better, many negative aspects still remain in society,” he says. "Even though we think we are free, we are still slaves to society.”

Clash said of the single 'At times stark, sparse and at others lush and intense, it's a brave recording that tackles recurring aspects of oppression.' File next to artists like Rationalle and Rag n Bone man, a sound very much rising in 2017.
